Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the fragile bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

I am continually amazed by Jennifer L. Armentrout and her abilities to come up with such amazing worlds. I was really excited to start reading this series as I got an eARC of The King (Attach Review Here) a novella to this world and I thought it was only fair for me to read all of the other books first.

I am 100% amazed by this story. This is my first ever Fae related read and I think I’m hooked. I forget how much I love paranormal reads, especially ones by JLA. They are so fascinating to me and I get lost in the world they are building for us. Even though this story is based in New Orleans, Louisiana. There are still magical and mystical things about a world we as the reader know little about. Magical realism? Uhm, yes, please. Sign me up and strap me in. I cannot get enough. This is why I read. For books written like this. For the authors who write like this. So that I can go to a place I’ve never been before and come up with a picture of it in my head with the description that the author gives.

Ivy Morgan wants so much more than just life in the Order. She is a fiery redhead with tons of sass, a total bad a**, but yet so vulnerable. She has a great heart and might be one of my favorite characters of the year. Ren Owens, tall dark and handsome. I am still unsure how I feel about Ren. I do like him don’t get me wrong, but he comes on too possessive, strong, and assertive which I usually love, but with him, it somewhat annoyed me. I did, however, enjoy his determination with Ivy. Throughout the entire book, he never gives up on trying to win her over. Tink. I cannot forget about Tink. He is hands down my favorite character!! He is hilarious and so enjoyable and he does it with ease. He doesn’t even need to try and be funny, he just is.

Overall I think that the book had a great pace to it. I really enjoyed the plot and the characters no matter how big or small their roll in the book. Did I think that some parts were drawn out a little too long? Sure. But it was helpful for me because I understood what was going on. My one and only issue was that I thought it was really predictable. I knew about 4 or 5 chapters in what was going to happen. It was awesome and epic, but also sweet and sexy. Such a great combination and I can’t wait to finish this review so I can start reading book two, Torn. The cliffhanger literally had me jumping in my seat. I cannot wait to see what happens next in this story.

Solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐ star read!
