This book had so much potential, it really did. I enjoyed parts of it, but it didn’t turn out as I thought it would. This book could have been much longer and it should have been. I felt like everything was rushed. If you are not a fan of insta-love books, I’d steer clear from this read. Damien has a very strong personality and has gone through so much as a child. It seems that though he had a rough childhood, he’s turned out to be a great man and is doing very well for himself. However, he was just too overprotective for my taste. Do I love an overprotective hunk? Absolutely. But when you meet someone one day and then next he’s acting like he’s known you forever and knows what’s good for you, I have a problem with that. It made me very uncomfortable. I understand he’s trying to help her get out of a terrible situation, but to me, I just feel like he’s trying to insert himself in her situation because “he knows what she’s going through.” He also continually tells Lilah that he wanted to take things slow with her and then turns around and does the opposite of it. I felt like I was getting whiplash. Lilah, what a strong girl she is. I really liked Lilah and admired her courage, but there were things about her that confused me. I can understand wanting to be comforted in her time of need, especially in the situation that she was in, but the relationship between the two of them seemed to be almost forced. I would have loved to see Lilah grow more as her own person instead of jumping into another relationship so quickly.
Overall I liked this but in my opinion, this book was too rushed for my taste and could have, for sure, been stretched out into more than one book. I truly thought I was going to LOVE this book, but that wasn’t the case. Do I think that this book and it’s contents is something that should be talked about? Yes, absolutely. This kind of subject is hard to touch on, but I think that its good that it is talked about and written about. Strong ⭐⭐⭐ read.
