That was my whole job.” He pats my hand. “I know, but sometimes men just don’t get it. You have to be careful.” “I know. I am.” After all, everyone knows that women are responsible for how men behave. If we’re not careful, they might decide to take what they want. They can’t help it. But somehow I’m the one with the psychological impairment.“
Have you ever read a book and I knew you weren’t supposed to like one of the main characters? This is what happened to me with this book. I really don’t think I should have like Jane as a person but I really did. It’s like I was rooting for her and exactly what she was doing even though I knew it was really, really wrong. I had to question myself multiple times thinking what the heck am I reading and why am I liking this so much? I could not put this book down and I really didn’t want to. I read it (or I should say listened to the audio) at work, on the way to work, in the shower, while cleaning and cooking I was doing absolutely anything. I wanted to know more about Jane and Steven, our main characters. Why was Jane was seeking revenge in Steven? What was she going to do to Steven when she got him in her grips?
“I open the camera feed on my laptop and watch Steven smooth gel into his hair. He’s whistling. Once his hair looks perfect, he makes his bed and then dusts his hands as if he’s finished a big project. He’s so satisfied with his tidy little life. I can’t wait to watch it all crumble into a smoking pile of shit. My cat appears and rubs her cheek against me in approval. She understands exactly. The kill is fun, but toying with your prey is really the best part.“
This book gave me Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn vibes, which is one of my favorite reads last year. Overall, Jane Doe is fun, intriguing, and I was fully immersed in the story the entire time. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if this was number one on my list for my end of the year favorite reads. Definite ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars and I will recommend this to any thriller lover. I can’t wait for the sequel of this book to come out!!
