The only purebred vampire left on the planet and the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who killed his parents centuries ago. But when his most trusted fighter is killed—orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate—Wrath must put down his dagger and usher the beautiful female into another world.

Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn’t there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of the Brotherhood and blood frighten her. Yet his touch ignites a dawning new hunger—one that threatens to consume them both…

My first book by J.R Ward and all I need to ask myself is why has it taken me so long to read this series? What the hell was I doing beforehand and why haven’t read this any sooner? This book took me a bit to get through and understand what was going on. You are thrown into this world with not much of any explanation of anything. Considering how long this book is, not a lot happens in it but I think it’s a great way to set up the rest of the books. There are a ton of characters in this book, our main characters are Beth and Wrath and I truly enjoyed learning about them. As the leader of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, Wrath is such an interesting character and takes his role as the leader very seriously. I am still unsure how I feel about Wrath, I like him but he’s not my favorite hero ive ever read, he’s just okay. Beth is a journalist and works her butt off for everything she’s gotten in her life and yet gets no recognition for it. She is such a sweet, easy going, lovable, compassionate, and relatable character. No doubt, she is my favorite character in this book. Overall, this was a good book. For sure not my favorite read, but it was really good and I now understand all the hype around this series.
